The JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede said in a virtual meeting with owners of Computer Based Test Centres that the use of NIN for registration came from Nigeria Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu.

This is done in order to checkmate security issues in Nigeria.

“It is for security reasons; at our small level it will help to avoid impersonation but there are still bigger picture of insecurity in the country. We know that many of these problems that we have is because we have identification problem and can not identify every citizen…,” Adamu Adamu said.

He also added that candidates must make use of accessible SIM cards for UTME registration.

Mallam Adamu Adamu said further that JAMB is in talks with the minister of Communication and Digital Economy to grant conditional waiver to almost 20 percent of candidates without SIM card.
