BlossomHill Schools celebrates press club Day
It was an interesting time of learning, fun and competition as BlossomHill schools played host to invited schools at her annual Press Club Day.
As an important extra curricula activity that helps enhance critical thinking, oratory skills and proficiency in the use of the English language among other life skills, the Press club helps develop confidence. This was in no small measure displayed in the attitude of pupil of BlossomHill schools as they chanted their slogan ” press Club—– knowledge is power”!.
The event took shape as pupils competed in spelling bee, dictation, quiz and picture identification. The introduction of the digital game of 4 pictures one word was an innovative addition as the pupils related images that described a word; lending to the capacity of the human brain to solve complex problems at such tender age.
The competition started in house as pupils of BlossomHill schools set the pace in the quiz and other aspects of the contest. The debate saw an exceptional display of wit and charisma as the speakers who spoke for and against the motion “junk Food should be banned from schools” gave reasons to support their points.
The different rounds of the competition had participants from Gospel Crusader, Divine Florence and Gibralter schools slugging it out to win. With debate topics “money can buy Happiness” and “School Uniform is a bad idea” the contest was as interesting as it was educating.
The proprietress of BlossomHill schools, Mrs. Laura Ashiedu, commending the efforts of participants said she was very proud of the performance of the pupils. Ashiedu said the reason for inviting other schools to the press day is to foster friendship among the schools and pupils as opposed to the notion that schools are competitors.
The school administrator, Mr. Feyi Olasode, told Prestige Nigeria Education Blog (PNEB) that this year’s Press day had technology incorporated into it. He said it was important to carry the pupils along because the world had gone digital. Olasode spoke of plans to make the press club day a bigger event with more invited schools and the possibility of corporate sponsorship.
Then came the moment of truth as the results came in for the inhouse contest among BlossomHill pupils and for the invited schools.
For BlossomHill schools, in the Debate category : Akhator Angel came first, while Ameh Isabella, Ohwode Blessing and Braimah Bethany came 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Nwagala Goodness emerged the Spelling Bee winner , Mokogwu Somto won the picture reading contest and Isabella Ameh won the 4 pictures one word contest.
For the invited Schools, Lawanson Olamide from Gospel crusader won the Spelling Bee contest, and Ojo Elijah from Divine Florence won the quiz segment
The debate:
Eshun Eunice from Divine Florence gave a convincing and beautiful argument opposing the topic “uniform is a bad idea” clinching the first position while Fariza Adebayo from Gibralter College and Edekunu Rotawe from Gospel opposing the motion “money can buy happiness” crusader also emerged winners.
The event came to a wrap with the presentation of prizes to winners and entertainment.
